“ The search for the truth is a modern theme”. We are getting to a point where technology is complicating rather than simplifying our lives and creates paranoia”.  Yann Gozlan , Director
The story as seen by Yann Gozlan

“Black Box” begins with a plane crash in the Alps. The plane is one of the most sophisticated on the market. The French Bureau of Enquiry and Analysis for Civil Aviation Safety (BEA) tries to determine the cause of the crash. Is it  human error?  A technical problem? An act of terrorism?
It is in this environment of heightened media coverage that Matthieu Vasseur (Pierre Niney), one of the BEA engineers begins to work on the case. Very quickly, this inquiry becomes an obsession.
Director’s notes: excerpt

“My fascination for the aeronautic industry inspired me to direct “Black box”.
My main challenge was to convey authenticity .  Although the actors use technical terms, one understands easily the colossal financial stakes that are behind the power plays and the drama.
When we read the scenario, many feared that it would become slightly obscure but I felt strongly that using precise and technical vocabulary would strengthen the movie and would give it credibility on screen.
I also wanted the audience to have empathy towards the main character. Without using many words Pierre Niney brings tension and fragility to the film in a most natural way.
I am very impressed by the way he renders palpable the tourments which haunt  his character.”
